I am on the fence and would appreciate opinions. It may be time for me to get rid of most of my books. Arguments for or against:
Aaron: Two thoughts. First, hell will freeze over before I’ll willingly part with my books. So I’m always in favor of keeping books. Books are a reason unto themselves.
But if you really want to cross that bridge I’d say consider three criteria; does the book have a significant emotional meaning to you (changed life, was grandfather’s, etc.), is it something that an electronic version can’t capture like an art book, or is it a reference book you need often enough to be worth keeping. Anything that doesn’t qualify for any of the three can go. And if there’s an electronic version of #3, it might be time to let it go as well.
Kris: I’ve purged most of the dust-catchers & only kept ones that I’m still sentimental enough to not be resentful about keeping clean. These days I’m almost completely digital, reference & recreational reading. The older I get the fewer objects I like to have. I much prefer using the Overdrive app & the internet to having rooms full of stuff to maintain .
Margaret: It was liberating for me. Kept my most loved and pretty much live on Kindle.
Jivana: I put all of mine in the closet in Jan and if they hadn’t been dugout and read by the end of the year I got rid of them. I think I kept one and even that one I think I bought for kindle and donated the book
