2017 Kitties!
This year we decided not to foster any kitties. We were already maxed out, and last year had been kind of rough losing several kittens and too many colony cats.

So of course my dad called me about a tiny kitten he found out in the woods. Soy Sauce was a single kitten and I thought he would do better with a friend so I got Cheddar in as a foster. And then Wensleydale and Mimolette. The three cheese babies grew up and got adopted, so I picked up sick babies Roger and Violet. While Roger didn’t recover (RIP baby), Violet got better and took over the house. And we also took on Thing 1 and Thing 2, for what should have been two weeks but was a wee bit longer.

Meanwhile, mamma Ashley came into our lives, a sweet polydactyl lady with 7 over-toed babies. We fostered some, arranged fosters, arranged adoptions, made sure everyone got fixed and sent to a good home. Happy tails Katie, Rambo, Rocky, Havok, Maverick, Dusty, & Dale.

So 16 kitties deep into the year, half of them with lots of extra toes, and instead of resting on our laurels, I had to say “okay, now hold my beer!”

I took on three co-nursing moms with 10 babies between them. And days later took on 4 more orphan babies still nursing. That’s a family of 17!

At the end of the year, all of these kitties but 5 last kittens were adopted. Plus several of our long-term residents got adopted: Keri, Charlie, and Elusive.
