Now is the time to embrace chaotic good.

If you haven’t notice already, social media as we once knew it is gone. This new era is very different, and it will continue to evolve. It’s more important than ever to find ways that make sense to you to stay connected to people. It might take a little more effort until the next new things comes along.
What can / should you do to stay connected?

Make plans to see friends. Put it on your calendar so you actually do it. Go see people in real life. (This is the most important one.)

Try another social platform or look at how to tune the ones you’re on to see only what you want to see. (They’re all going the same direction because people are using social media differently, so let go of that longing for the olden days.)

Subscribe to emails for venues, local businesses, community calendars and news outlets you like. e.g. The city of Gainesville has a great mailing list of local events.

Get phone numbers and connect with your friends directly. Yes, try Messenger, WhatsApp, Discord, Signal, etc. to create nice small groups that you manage to chat with our friends and community, but those are free services that can easily go away one day, too.

Make your own website to save things that are important to you. Retain custody of your own stuff. Blog about things you think are interesting, make a list of websites you use regularly, post your recipes for yourself, curate what you want to share with people about your lived experience. You’ve been doing this all along here, so why not do it on a website you control rather than one that controls you!

If you want to pick my brain or get an assist on any of these things, I’m here to help.
